Industry Specific ComplianceThe National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) on July 16, 2026, notified regarding the revised Turnaround Time (TAT) for responding to Fraud and Wrong Credit Chargebacks in UPI URCS.

The following has been stated:

• NPCI has revised the Turnaround Time (TAT) for beneficiary banks to respond to Fraud and Wrong Credit chargebacks in the UPI Unified Reconciliation and Claims System (URCS) from 35 calendar days to 15 calendar days, effective August 1, 2026. The revised timeline applies to all pending and new chargebacks, irrespective of whether they were raised before or after the effective date. 

• Beneficiary banks shall accept or reject chargebacks within 15 calendar days from the date they are raised; otherwise, the chargebacks will be automatically marked as "Deemed Accepted" in URCS and settled accordingly. Member banks have been advised to actively monitor and respond to open chargebacks to ensure compliance with the revised timelines.
